The two functions of culture
The first possible use of culture is as an escape from an evil and hostile world.
Through quiz shows, café visits and humanities degrees, culture sedates us. Culture is used as an intoxicant. It gives us pleasure and fills the individual with a blissful indifference to the sufferings of the world.
The second function culture can have is as a carrier of meaning and values. Culture is an instrument of power. It suppresses the natural nihilism in every human being. The true and authentic void within is replaced by culture's illusions of meaning and value.
NFP completely rejects culture as a meaning-making instrument of power. All culture that creates meaning must be wound down.
Culture as an intoxicant has a glorious purpose that NFP can only support. But copies are never as good as originals, and culture has never worked half as well as drugs do.
